We recently received a letter from a woman in the Detroit Metropolitan area that struck a chord with us; in tough economic times there are many people struggling to make ends meet. This letter stands out because the author is not asking for a handout, but a hand up; not for herself, but for her son. We are publishing it in hopes that one or more Knights who read it can offer some assistance or direction. If you can be of assistance, please contact Larry Grabowski at the State Council Office ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it 313-274-3223).
I am sending this email because I was hoping you could help my son. He is a 31 year old man that has learning disabilities (his IQ falls within the mildly retarded range) and emotional problems. Until recently he was also dealing with congestive heart failure. But, through the grace of God his heart failure has seemed to correct itself. The Doctor at Harper Hospital in Detroit said it must be certainly due to a miracle. Which I know is true because my sister is a Dominican nun and she has had the nuns at The Blessed Sacrament Monastery praying for him (I'm sure you are aware there has been miracles attributed to their prayers.) His problem is he cannot find a job. I have taken him out numerous times to fill out applications but, due to his limited reading ability and the economy he is still unemployed. He does receive food stamps and I have been paying his rent and utilities. I am receiving unemployment (due to being laid off) and I don't know how much longer I can support him. I was hoping someone in your organization can assist him in finding a job. He does have experience in the heat treat industry and can perform jobs that are repetitious.. He is strong, hard working and honest. All he really needs is for someone to understand his abilities and give him a chance.
Vivat Jesus!
